Apartment Renovation in Amstelveen in Seven Weeks: A Bespoke Interior with Attention to Detail

Warm oak textures, tall flush-fitting doors, smooth surfaces and carefully planned lighting define this RenoLiving project in Amstelveen, directly bordering Amsterdam. The apartment originally had a basic finish: tiled flooring, standard doors and an interior that lacked individual character. The client wanted to transform it into a comfortable home with inviting materials, a calm colour palette and distinctive details.Over seven weeks, we renewed the flooring, wall and ceiling finishes, lighting, internal doors, furniture and bathroom. The apartment gained an entirely different atmosphere.RenoLiving specialises in high-quality apartment renovations and comprehensive refurbishments of private homes and villas throughout North Holland and South Holland — Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland. Our approach combines technical preparation, coordination between specialists and careful execution, from concealed construction details to the final finishes.

Flooring on Jumpax Panels: Preparation and Herringbone Installation

The existing tiled floor gave the apartment a visually cold character. We removed it completely and prepared the substrate for the new flooring.

We used Jumpax panels as part of the floor construction. Subfloor preparation and acoustic considerations were addressed together with the choice of floor finish: both appearance and sound comfort matter in an apartment.

We then installed PVC flooring with a natural oak appearance in a herringbone pattern. The timber tones brought warmth to the rooms, while the laying pattern added depth and definition.

Particular attention went to the direction of the pattern, precise cutting and junctions at door openings. The finished floor height was coordinated with the concealed door frames in advance so that the different elements would align correctly during installation.

Preparing Walls and Ceilings for a High-Quality Paint Finish

In a restrained interior, surface quality becomes especially visible. Daylight falling across a wall and directional lighting reveal uneven areas, sanding marks and imperfect junctions.

We carried out plastering and filling, carefully sanded the surfaces and prepared them for painting. Substrate treatment, priming and subsequent coats followed a sequence suited to the existing surfaces and the selected finishing system.

We gave particular attention to ceilings, corners and areas around door openings. The accuracy of this preparation directly affects how cohesive and refined the finished interior feels.

Track Lighting and a Warm Colour Palette

We installed a track lighting system that allows light to be directed where it is needed, highlighting textures and creating focal points.

The positioning of the lights was coordinated with the furniture and finishes. The lighting needed to complement the selected colours, reveal the flooring pattern and create a comfortable atmosphere for everyday living.

Combined with the calm palette and oak textures, it helped make the apartment feel warm and welcoming.

Tall Doors with Concealed Frames

One of the defining features of the project was the replacement of all internal doors with concealed-frame systems.

The frames are integrated into the walls, with the closed door leaves sitting flush with the adjacent surface on the concealed-frame side. The absence of projecting architraves preserves clean lines. Tall, non-standard door leaves and carefully selected handles give the interior a distinctive character.

This solution requires precision well before the final decoration. Opening dimensions, finishing thicknesses, finished floor levels, frame positioning and consistent clearances all need to be considered together.

Our specialists coordinated the door installation with wall preparation and floor construction. This relationship between the different trades is essential to achieving accurate alignment and neat junctions.

Furniture from Poland and Thoughtful Storage

For this apartment, we supplied high-quality furniture from Poland and installed wardrobes and clothing storage systems.

The furniture was selected to suit the room dimensions, overall palette and the owner’s storage needs. Well-planned storage helps maintain order and preserves a sense of space.

During installation, we focused on alignment, adjustment of the fronts and neat junctions. These details influence the everyday experience of opening doors, using storage and maintaining the interior.

Bathroom Renovation: Large-Format Tiles and Distinctive Accents

In the bathroom, we removed the existing tiles and installed large-format tiles with a concrete-effect finish.

The restrained background was complemented by bold accent areas in the shower and on the wall behind the toilet. These details introduced character while maintaining the overall balance of the interior.

Large-format tiling demands careful substrate preparation and layout planning. Joint positions, cuts, corners and junctions with sanitary fittings were considered together to create a cohesive finish.

Seven Weeks of Coordinated Work

Completing this scope of work in seven weeks required planning, organised deliveries and close coordination between specialists.

The Jumpax floor construction, concealed door frames, surface preparation, lighting and furniture installation were all interconnected. Requirements for later stages were considered in advance to maintain a clear sequence and accurate execution.

The result is a warm, comfortable and distinctive apartment in Amstelveen. Its individual character comes from the combination of proportions, textures, lighting and carefully finished details.
